I love blogging. I have been blogging on and off since 2002, and, since then, I have reaped the benefits of blogging.
Blogging has benefits?! Of course, it has. It’s not only the bloggers contributing pieces of themselves to the community. Blogging also gives something back to the blogger. For the past seven years, I am happy to say that I have benefited a lot from blogging.
Therapy
I am among those who say blogging is therapeutic. I was an angsty teenager when I began blogging. I chronicled the darkest, most confusing phase of my life. I wrote about the issues I faced then.
Now when I look back and read my entries from seven years ago, I am amazed at how far I’ve come, how much I’ve changed. I also came to realize, that had I not put those emotions into writing, I would have burst into flames. I went through a terrible time and if I didn’t have an outlet in blogging, the things I would have kept inside me would have affected me negatively.
So I am glad to have started blogging when I did. I had a way to say the things I felt then.
Knowledge
Blogging enabled me to read, read and read some more. A good blogger must always have something new to share to her readers. In order to achieve this, I kept up with the news, read articles, watched interesting shows on TV and kept myself updated with just about everything about the blogosphere and my niches. In turn, I am learning so much, more than enough to be able to share the hottest, most interesting blog posts to my readedrs. I gained knowledge to be able to share knowledge.
Opportunities
Blogging has given me an opportunity to showcase my writing. My blogs are an archive of not just my random thoughts, but a repository of my best articles. My blogs serve as my portfolio.
Blogging enabled me to be a work-at-home mom. I love being able to do the things I love – writing and blogging – and being able to earn from them.
I not only get writing gigs. Since my blogs are running on WordPress, I have learned so much from installing, implementing plugins and maintaining WordPress, that I am able to participate in projects involving blog installation and maintanance work.
Fellowships and Friendships
Blogging gave me new friends. In my recent interest in microblogging, I have met so many interesting people through my microblogs at Twitter, Jaiku and, most recently, Plurk.
The blogosphere is full of interesting people, it is so easy to find like-minded individuals who shares my hobbies and passions. Blogging is one common denominator, but it goes beyond that. I have met people I identify with – mothers, single parents, adopted children, Filipinos and so many people. These people brighten up my day with the the funnies, share information and interesting reads, laugh with me, cry with me, be emo with me earn with me and, best of all, blog with me.
Immortality
Through my blogs, I am immortal. Even if my blogs go offline 75 years from now, it cannot be denied that people have dropped by my blogs and read my thoughts. I can only hope that I have imparted something to them. They may not remember me, or where they have read what they knew or learned, but whatever I may have shared that had a deep impact on any person’s life, makes me immortal.
Blogging has definitely changed my life. It has given me a way to express myself, share what I know, make new friends and be a work-at-home mom.
The seven years I’ve spent blogging are well-spent, and I am sure you’ll be seeing me around and blogging for more years to come.
