A Work at Home Mom Shares Tips on Freelancing and Productivity

The Benefits of being a WAHM

Most people who do not know me well wonder what I do for a living. Even my neighbors are in awe that I never have to leave home, but then they see me go out once a week only to return home with bags full of groceries. I had a neighbor who approached me and ask who sustains my household, which is composed of myself, my son and our nanny. I told her, “I work at home.” She seemed really puzzled.

Even if there are a lot of people who work at home, there are even more people who are clueless that a thing such as a telecommute work is viable. I get asked a lot how and why I got into this sort of thing (blogging and working at home) and if it’s any different from actual office work.

Well, there are similarities and differences between the traditional office setup and working at home. But for this post, let me share with you the reasons why I love being a work at home mom, and why I think you’d like the same arrangement, too.

When you work at home…

Your Time is Your Own

Working at home can be demanding, but what’s great about it is the flexible working hours. If you want the convenience of sleeping early, then yes, working from 8AM until 5PM is possible, or if you are a night owl, you can schedule your working hours at night until the wee hours of the morning. It all depends on your arrangements with your client/s.

You Can Be With Your Family

This is, by far, the best thing about working at home. As a mom, I really love that I am able to work in the comfort of my living room and be with my son as I type away on my keyboard.

You Can Save a Lot of Time and Money

No more waking up early to avoid the traffic jam, no more hassling to prepare your packed lunch, no wasted money for gas and commuting expenses. It feels really good to wake up, get out of bed, grab a cup of coffee and sit at my work area to check on the day’s tasks. There’s really no rushing because I have no specific time to beat. I can never be late for work and I don’t have to spend too much on eating out. And I can always have a hot, home-cooked meal during my lunch breaks.

Well, these are just the main reasons why I think being a work-at-home mom rocks, but there are many other benefits of freelancing and working at home that may just tickle your fancy.
